Overview

Ms. Lopez has been litigating complex cases and appeals for more than two decades. She prides herself on stellar advocacy through brief writing, both at the district and appellate court levels. Her practice focuses on high-stakes federal litigation, international law, foreign sovereign representation, white collar criminal defense, and appellate law. Her clients value her efficient, straight-forward approach to the practice of law.

She grew up in Brunswick, Maine, the daughter of a lawyer (her father) and a teacher (her mother). She and her husband live in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Ms. Lopez is the proud parent of two teenagers, a daughter and son. In her free time, she loves to try to channel her mother’s culinary skills by experimenting with recipes from around the globe. Ms. Lopez’s Linked In series International Law “Food” for Thought combines her love for the practice of international law litigation and cooking for and with her family.

Representative Experience

  • Represent former corporate executive in cross-border criminal investigation and related U.S. federal civil case. Achieved dismissal of the U.S. suit on personal jurisdiction grounds.
  • Represent foreign company and individual in multiple lawsuits arising out of an international fraud operation.
  • Represent website operators in federal case regarding online regulations; achieved dismissal on personal jurisdiction grounds.
  • Represent individual in insider trading criminal case and related SEC matter.
  • Represent foreign company in internal investigation of customs violations in conjunction with co-counsel.
  • Advise diplomatic missions on various legal issues, including regarding contract matters, local employment law, and other questions of U.S. law.
  • Represented several embassies in Washington, D.C. in multiple employment law litigations, including on appeal.
  • Represented international charity in internal investigation and oversaw audit of export control / sanctions compliance and voluntary disclosure.
  • Represented group of foreign nations as amici in appeal involving issue of cultural heritage property patrimony law.
